Lost too much muscles for Madras Cafe : John Abraham

John Abraham is extremely confident about his upcoming movie ‘Madras Cafe’. He has lost weight and muscles to play his character in the movie. The actor excitedly tells about his role in the movie. In the movie he plays the role of Captain Vikram Singh. The actor claims that the role is very challenging and portrays military operations in a different and non-conventional way.

My character, Major Vikram Singh, is a military officer who is sent to Jaffna on a covert operation. For this, I had to deconstruct myself completely. I had to lose a lot of muscle because these officers look like regular people. When they are in a crowd, they are completely inconspicuous. Luckily, my director Shoojit Sircar and I are on the same page as far as performances are concerned, so we kept the characterisation subtle.

Major Vikram is a family man. He leaves his wife behind to go to war. There he meets Jaya, a journalist played by Nargis Fakhri. What happens to Jaya, what happens to his wife, what happens in Vikram’s personal and professional life, form the crux of the story.

I sport a haggard look with overgrown hair. Shoojit kept telling me this film would make me a complete performer. This characterisation is the reason,I’m going to make a conscious decision to do more such films.

The movie has been directed by Shoojit Sircar. Reportedly Shoojit wanted a rugged look of John in the movie similar to the look of Tom Hanks in the Hollywood movie Cast Away (2000).

Madras Cafe has been produced by John Abraham and Ronnie Lahiri in association with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The movie will hit theaters on August 23, 2013.
